Hello! It feels like such a long time since I wrote to you. It was so lovely to see those that were able to make it to class this Summer - I missed those of you that weren’t. I’ve heard about some wonderful trips! It’s been such a long and luscious Summer here, there’s a feeling of not wanting it to end, yet at the same time a kind of relishing in how the sun’s Summer boldness, eases into more of a soft golden light. You’re no doubt noticing the colours of the leaves slowly turning, an abundance of apples and pears seemingly in everyone’s gardens, and the air has a slightly crisper feel in the mornings and evenings. Although easing into Autumn can often invite a sense of melancholy, it only takes a few moments to look about you and notice the beauty of nature within the transition of the seasons.
For most of us, our routines, healthy habits, grounding rituals, our yoga practice and possibly our jobs, have all fluctuated, paused or ceased to exist during the Summer months. September always seems to welcome a return to our routines and re-ignite wellness habits if they’ve left the scene for more fun times! Read on to find out about your Autumn Term Schedule, Well-Woman Autumn Equinox Event, Yoga Nidra Event, Ritual idea’s for Self-Care as we transition into Autumn, Health & Wellness Column, The Feminine Connection Subscription News, Podcast News, Yoga Retreat in Turkey, Men Walking & Talking Fundraising Event…. and a classic autumn song :)

Simple Self-Care Rituals
I thought to write a little about what rituals are, how they differ from habits, their benefits and some morning and evening ritual idea’s. The extract below is taken from this week’s Feminine Connection subscription letter. I hope you find it inspiring - it’s suitable for all.
Moving into the darker months can often bring lower mood, energy and less of an inclination to support our health: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. So to navigate through the forthcoming months, let’s look at how rituals can be of benefit.
The power in ritual lies in the ability to create an intention, a meaning, mark important transitions, and connect ourselves to something larger than our individual selves, whether that’s a personal value, a tradition or a community.
Rituals are actions that require engagement and meaning, else they can become habits like anything else (even if it’s a good habit). Just to clarify, habits are actions that we do automatically or even unconsciously, on autopilot. Our rituals support us in living consciously.
Here are some simple examples of the differences between habits and rituals:
HABITS:
Brushing your teeth before bed (whilst thinking about other things)
Taking the same route to work/destinations without considering alternatives
Putting keys in the same place when getting home
Drinking coffee/tea first thing in the morning whilst reading phone/emails/making others breakfasts.
RITUALS:
A morning meditation practice, lighting a candle, sit in silence and set intentions for the day.
Family dinner tradition where everyone shares one good thing from their day before eating.
Bedtime routine involving writing 3 things you’re grateful for in a journal.
Although I’ve highlighted different examples, all of the ‘habit’ actions can also be a ritual, depending on how they’re performed, simply by being mindful of savouring the moment and giving attention to achieve its intended purpose.
As we move into September, using the suggestions below may be a really helpful way in supporting yourself to be present, grounded and better able to cope with the seasonal transition. I invite you to choose one to explore, daily, this week.
Morning Rituals:
Upon waking, rest one hand on the heart space, one on the belly, inhale to the heart, exhale down to the belly for several minutes.
Feel your feet on the ground, the carpet, the grass outside
Open the window/go outside, feel the air enter and leave your nostrils
Make your bed
Journal (anything, no judgement)
Use your tea/coffee making as a ritual - use your favourite cup, take your time to make it the best cup of tea/coffee just for you…contemplate where you will sit to drink it.
Self massage with kind and loving thoughts to and about yourself..
Evening Rituals:
Write/reflect/meditate on 3 things that you’ve done well that day; then 3 things you’re grateful for
Make a soothing bedtime drink…and make the process a ritual, like your morning drink
Use golden thread breath and visualisation in bed
Wrap your arms around yourself, or a loved one
Journal
Read, draw, write…
Bath and self massage
Health & Wellness Column
I’m really excited to introduce you to Nicola Davidson. I’ve known Nicola for some time now and she is skilled in so many aspects of healing modalities. Nicola and I have started collaborating this year with our Yoga Nidra & Somatic Sound events which have had such phenomenal feedback. Our December event is just shy of selling out already. We plan to run more of these next year as requests to do so have been so high.
Read on to find out more about the lovely Nicola.
Stepping away, stepping inward and reconnection By Nicola Davidson
I find it near impossible to take time away these days – a privilege I don’t take for granted but also struggle with, as many do. It’s hard to prioritise ourselves amidst the demands of life, but this is the one thing that has changed everything for me - the ability to sit still and be with myself.
Seven years ago, my life was unrecognisable in comparison to what it is today. Not from the outside (I still lived in the same house, had a lovely family, and a busy career), but from within.
I used to run, mostly from myself.
Kept busy. All. The. Time – anything to keep my mind off myself and how permanently lost I felt.
But I had it all? The career (I was head of dept at a thriving secondary school – a job I had dreamt of), a loving husband, two beautiful children and a wonderful circle of support in friends and family. But inside I was broken.
It took hitting a bottom that I couldn’t comprehend, to break me open and allow me to return to myself. Slowly, gently and at times, brutally.
And the changes didn’t happen in an instant, they required deep stillness, humility, honesty, connection and trust. Things that I simply couldn’t embody previously. My journey to becoming an Integrative Somatic Therapist has been a deep and intense process of re-education, self-reflection and cognitive reframing – something I embody within my practice.
Returning to joyful movement, learning to breathe again, listening to the body and working with all parts of the self are vital to my work with clients. Holding space for those I work with to rediscover themselves is truly an honour.
I discovered working with sound by accident whilst training as a therapist. The connection to sound based tools was instant. After attending sound meditation sessions, I found that I was softening and more open during my own therapy sessions. I was intrigued by this effect so I delved deeper. I studied frequency and its effect on the body, and what I found informs everything that I do within my work with trauma, neurodivergence and addiction today.
I work with clients that may have exhausted other talking therapy options, don’t like talking, or those that simply can’t quite figure why they need help or what they are looking for – but there’s that ‘stuck’ feeling. Using tuning forks both on and around the body, I work with the client to bring the nervous back into balance and to clear the Biofield. The results are shifts - both subtle and profound at times. Cognitive reframing of experiences that have resulted in deep wounds enables a renewed sense of freedom. The load feels lighter, the body feels again. A return to one’s true self, rather than living in wounds of the past.
If you are curious to find out more, or want to experience the phenomenal power of frequency, please reach out to attend a group sound meditation or book a free 20 minute discovery consultation to explore whether we would work well together. Meno Quirks Podcast
I was really delighted this Summer to be asked by Sally and Nat, creators of Meno Quirsk Podcast, to join them to talk about yoga & women’s health in relation to navigating the peri-menopause & menopause. It was a fun interview in a very hot yurt, on a very hot day with pauses in recordings for noisy planes above, but it’s a great chat with a lot to share. I hope that you enjoy it and feel the urge to support and subscribe to their relatively new podcast!
