Autumn News (part 1)

It’s amazing to recall that at the beginning of this term, our Friday morning Mixed Ability Class was still taking place outside! Now, eight weeks on, we’re moving into the depths of Autumn: misty mornings, cold and wet weather, the changing colours of our environment, naked trees, fiery sunsets and darker days… I’m always amazed at whatever is happening in the world, nature always continues to do it’s work.

Observing nature, being outside and soaking in the great outdoors through the senses can be one of the most healing experiences that we can do for ourselves… a sensory meditation can bring you completely into the present moment often helping to calm and soothe the nervous system. We’ll be working with sensory meditations a little more next term.

Brighton in October.

This is the first of two newsletters this Autumn. I’ll keep this one fairly brief  with an update on next terms schedule; introducing the latest range of Living Your Yoga Candles and their creator; a free online class to a friend offer; a proposal of a little Christmas get together…and to wish you all a happy half term break!

Autumn News Part 2 will be covering all events, classes, courses and retreats for Women in 2024…this newsletter will be out on Sunday 5th November.

We now have a week off for half term break and classes restart on Monday 6th November.

Special Treat For The Darker Days!

Our Monday evening classes have grown into a really special community with people attending nationwide and also internationally! The class is a really wonderful way to wind down at the beginning of the week. Many people have said it helps curb their Monday blues - especially as the days are getting darker and shorter.

For those of you that book onto our Monday Evening Hatha Yoga Online Class, I’d like to offer you an “invite a friend to a class for free” treat any time this term. Just ask your friend to drop me a message, give me your name, and they can attend a Monday Evening Class free of charge - an uplifting gift to give to a friend on these dark days.

Living Your Yoga Candles

I’ve been so excited to share the launch of the Living Your Yoga Candle ‘Santosha’, created by amazing aromatherapist Rebecca Tracey.

Now available to buy in class and online.

The candle is 100% natural and made up of Black Pepper to help calm anxiety; Bergamot to help lift moods of depression; Patchouli to ground & soothe; Neroli to uplift.

I always light a scented candle for my home practice - it’s part of my daily ritual - and whenever I smell the scent of my candle when I’m not practicing, it evokes a sense of calm and happiness. This is what inspired a Living Your Yoga Candle.

If you’d like to purchase a candle, do drop me a message/email. If you’re not local and would like a candle posted to you, head to ‘Book Classes’ on my website, scroll to the bottom of the page and you can purchase your candle there. They come in full size and travel size.

I’m really fortunate to have Rebecca Tracey attend my November Well-Woman Yoga Retreat in the Cotswolds next month. She will be leading an afternoon workshop in creating personalised essential oils. We have a few more collaborations in the pipeline, but for now, I wanted to introduce you to her through a little interview below. Enjoy!

Very excited to collect my candles from the lovely Rebecca!

What drew you to aromatherapy?

WE WERE RESTAURANTEURS AND OUR ETHOS WAS FRESH, HEALTHY FOOD.  NOTHING FROZEN OR MICROWAVES.  OUR OLD FRIEND WAS BEGINNING HIS PERFUME JOURNEY IN FRANCE, AND OUR ETHOS WAS THE SAME JUST BETWEEN FRAGRANCE AND FOOD.  WE FELT IMMEDIATELY CONNECTED, AND WHEN WE SOLD OUR RESTAURANTS, WE BECAME PARTNERS IN A BUSINESS THAT WE BELIEVED IN

Who and what can benefit from aromatherapy?

EVERYONE!  THEY HAVE A TRUE LIFE FORCE THAT DOESN'T EXIST WITH MANUFACTURED SCENT.  HUMANS AND ANIMALS, SOMETIMES WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING RELAX, UPLIFT AND SIMPLY ENJOY MOMENTS OF CALM AND SERENITY DUE TO THIER PROPERTIES

What makes aromatherapy special?

THEY LIVE, EVOLVE AND CHANGE, JUST LIKE US.  NO TWO BATCHES OF ESSENTIAL OILS ARE EVER THE SAME, NOR ARE WE AS WE TRAVEL THROUGHOUT OUR DAYS, AND MOMENTS.

SCENT IS ALSO THE MOST WONDERFUL SENSE WE HAVE AS THE TRANSPORTATIVE POWER THEY CONTAIN ELICITS LONG FORGOTTEN MEMORIES MORE VIVIDLY THEN THE OTHERS.

What is your process in creating your products?

THIS VARIES DEPENDING ON THE INTENTION I HAVE FOR THE PRODUCT.  I MAY JUST WANT TO PLAY AND CREATE A NEW EXCITING FRAGRANCE, OR AS I'M WORKING ON A LOVELY NEW WELLBEING CAPSULE COLLECTION, EACH FRAGRANCE HAS A SPECIFIC PLACE AND EMOTION AND MOMENT THEY REPRESENT.

How long have you ran your business for?

I'VE BEEN A VERY SLOW BURN WITH THIS, AS I'VE BEEN MAKING FOR MANY YEARS, BUT IT WAS 6 YEARS AGO THAT I CREATED A VERY SPECIFIC BRAND AND REALLY BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD WITH CREATING A FEASIBLE BUSINESS THAT I WAS HAPPY TO SHARE WITH EVERYONE.

What does your business do?

WE CREATE A HUGE RANGE OF NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL AROMATHERAPY PRODUCTS CREATED WITH 100% PURE INGREDIENTS, AND ALWAYS FRAGRANCED USING ONLY PURE ESSENTIAL OIL BLENDS THAT I CREATE.

Favourite aspect of your work?

I LOVE THE MAKING AND ALWAYS HAVE.  CREATING NEW PRODUCTS, BUT I ALSO LOVE SELLING AND MEETING NEW PEOPLE WHEN TALKING ABOUT THE BUSINESS, AS MY PASSION AND BELIEF IN WHAT I CREATE COMES THROUGH IN MY SHEER ENTHUSIASM WHEN DISCUSSING THEM ALL!

What does the future of your business look like? (Future events/products)

WE'VE GOT WONDERFUL PLANS TO KEEP EVOLVING AND BRINGING NEW PRODUCTS OUT, BUT THE MOST EXCITING VENTURE IS THE PLAN TO CREATE OUR REBECCA TRACEY WELLNESS CENTRE ABOVE OUR WORKSOP.  WE WANT TO BUILD A BEAUTIFUL INCLUSIVE HUB WITH LIKEMINDED PEOPLE,  PRACTITIONERS OF SO MANY GENRES, AND THEN RUN SOME WONDERFUL FULL DAY RETREATS WITHIN THE SPACE OFFERING CLIENTS A COMPLETELY IMMERSIVE DAY OF SELF CARE, EXPLORATION AND FUN!

Where are you based/opening times/how do we contact you?

MY WORKSHOP/BOUTIQUE IS LOCATED IN DODWELL TRADING ESTATE IN STRATFORD UPON AVON.  THERE ARE 2 FABULOUS ANTIQUES AND INTERIORS CENTRES THERE, A WONDERFUL CAFE, AND MY GORGEOUS STUDIO IS LOCATED DIRECTLY BEHIND. WE ARE ALWAYS THERE DURING THE WEEK, BUT WEEKENDS ARE QUITE BUSY WITH OUTDOOR EVENTS SO PLEASE DO GET IN TOUCH IF YOU'D LIKE TO HEAD OVER THEN AND WE'LL DO OUR BEST TO ACCOMMODATE YOU.

ALWAYS RING OR EMAIL; 07557 943882. OR rebecca@rebeccatracey.co.uk

YOU CAN ALWAYS SHOP ONLINE AT rebeccatracey.co.uk

What does Christmas look like for your business? Any new year plans?

CHRISTMAS IS A WONDERFULLY BUSY TIME.  I'M WORKING HARD TO RELEASE THE WELLNESS RANGE IN TIME, AND THEN BEGIN WORK ON THE STUDIO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Thanks so much Rebecca :)

Christmas Get-Together

I thought it was about time that I organise a little Christmas get-together for those that are local/able to meet!

I’m going to pop a doodle-poll on our what’s app groups this week - let me know if you can make it and and preferences, then I’ll get something booked for us.

I think that’s all for now. Have a lovely half term and I look forward to seeing you back on the mat soon.

Much Love,

Lucy xx

Living Your Yoga Celebrates 5 Years in September!

Photo from 2018 when LYY first officially launched. Garudasana/Eagle Pose.

Time has flown by. I can’t believe that Living Your Yoga has actually been living and growing for 5 years already. The little seed of this business, without a shadow of a doubt, has grown into something wonderful with the support of loved ones and an amazing community. Living Your Yoga has blossomed thanks to it’s commitment to and belief in: supporting a community’s health and well-being, continually making new friends and working relationships, bringing people together harmoniously, and recognising the power of a yoga practice and it’s many levels.

In these five years, in order to keep this little business up to date and encourage growth, I’ve trained in numerous courses & workshops to deepen my knowledge and understanding of how yoga can help so many people: Well-Woman Yoga Therapy; Yoga Nidra Teacher Training; Adore Your Pelvic Floor; Yin Yoga with Sarah Powers; Ashtanga Yoga with David Swenson and Ellen Johannesen; and a huge qualification in training to become a Yoga Therapist with Yogacampus which I graduated from this year!

Elsewhere, I’ve written articles for Om Yoga and Midwifery Matters; contributed to Dr Louise Newson’s latest book “The Definitive Guide to the Perimenopause & Menopause”; created and filmed material for Dr Louise Newson’s Balance+ App; won and been nominated for the Muddy Stilettos Award several times; interviewed on podcasts, including Dr Louise Newson’s and Messy Luminous Being; presented live’s on Balance+; organising & running Yoga Retreats and Mini-Day Retreats; adapted to the online world of Yoga Classes since covid…and there’s more new and exciting things to come.

I think it’s really important to pause here and say a huge thank you to all of you that continue to commit to your yoga practice and attend classes, events and retreats with Living Your Yoga. It grows and blossoms because of your dedication. I always work on providing the best for our yoga community in order for you to get what you need and want from your yoga practice. As you all know, yoga grows with you - it’s a life practice - an anchor that hopefully carries you through the highs and lows and the in-betweens that life brings.

To celebrate Living your Yoga’s 5th Birthday, if you bring a friend to class in September, it will only cost them £5! What a treat! ;)

Please drop me a message in advance to ensure that there is space in the chosen class.

Summer 2023

August Yoga Challenge!

This Summer saw the return of the August Yoga Challenge. Loads of you participated in this little community challenge. This year I filmed 3 different styles of surya namaskar for everyone to choose from. I loved that many of you mixed up the sequences to create you own creative flow. It’s been wonderful to see your photographs of where you practiced in the world and who with! Thank you for sharing and joining in! I hope it helped maintain your connection to your practice throughout the Summer break.

The fabulous Kate & Rachel encouraging the rest of their crew ;)

Balance App

It was wonderful to share the news this Summer that Dr Louise Newson’s Balance App has reached over 1,000,000 downloads, supporting & helping over 1,000,000 women as they transition through the menopause. The app was designed to create a supportive community and provide up to date information about all elements involved in helping women, feel equipped with  menopausal knowledge, support and advice, free of charge.

For more information, live chats and video’s, Balance+ is available to download free for the first 7 days. I have been filming yoga practices, including movement, meditation, breath work and yoga nidra’s, that I’ve created for women, since the balance+ was launched 2 years ago.

For more information head to: www.balance-menopause.com

My balance mug & thank you card :)

The Shirodhara Experience

This Summer I met with my gorgeous long-term friend and Ayurvedic genius Virginia Compton. She introduce me to a treatment called Shirodhara (oil pouring on forehead) and I can honestly say, I literally relaxed so much I couldn’t move after the treatment! Virginia writes that “it’s one of the most powerful Ayurvedic treatments where a continual stream of warm oil is poured over the forehead to indue a deep feeling of calm. This blissful therapy quietens the mind, alleviates anxiety and heightens awareness, and is particularly effective for insomnia, headaches and stress.”

Virgina has also written a beautiful wellness book called Sattvic Soul. It’s full of rituals and recipes for finding balance and optimum health in everyday life. A really accessible read for everyone. I will bring copies of this book to our Well-Woman Retreat days and Weekend to sell at a reduced price. Do contact me if you’d like to reserve a copy. For more information about Virginia and her work as a yoga therapist, yoga teacher and Ayurvedic therapist, head to: www.virginiacompton.com/treatments/

The Soul of Yoga

What is the soul of yoga?

Follow your heart into the

centre of the pose and find

in the midst of detail and

precision, in breath, alignment,

balance, bliss, fear and sadness -

at the very core of all of this

is love. Touch upon your

truest nature even once and

the experience of what you

really are sears the psyche

like the surface of the sun.

The soul of yoga, the gift

within the pose is the

moment of communion,

resting in pure essence,

the awakening as if from

sleep to the face of

unmistakable divinity;

the ineffable wonder and

living reality of spirit - oh,

yes - the soul of yoga is love.

A Restful Summer Newsletter

Before I take a week off for a bit of a rest, I wanted so much to catch up and share with you news about all things yoga in this letter! I invite you to grab a cuppa, put your feet up, and enjoy a little read before enjoying a little summer savasana with me...

Time for a Summer Savasana

What a full and fabulous term where we have been lucky enough to practice yoga outdoors this Summer! Classes have been busy with both new and familiar faces, the Summer’s Well-Woman Yoga Event was a sell out, and Living Your Yoga was at BBC Gardeners World with Newson Health…

This Summer see’s the return of the August Yoga Challenge and a reduced schedule for the Summer Holidays, both online and in-person.

Looking ahead to next term: there’s changes to both the schedule, venues & prices as of September - taking bookings now - read on for dates; Autumn’s Well-Woman Event has already sold out; Only 3 Rooms left for November’s Well-Woman Yoga Retreat at The Cotswold Park Barns; the launch of a new small group Yoga Therapy Course for Peri-Menopause/Menopause/Post Menopausal Women at The Newson Health Wellbeing Centre in Stratford-Upon-Avon and …well, I think that’ll be enough for now :)

The Return of the August Yoga Challenge!

Due to the popularity and fun that was had running this challenge last year, I thought to run it again this year, but with a bit more variety to make it inclusive to everyone!

This year, there will be video’s of 4 different styles of Sun Salutations to choose from to practice daily Monday - Saturday throughout the whole of August. The variations include practices that are taught across all classes including: Well-Woman Yoga; Hatha; Mixed Ability and Ashtanga! So all of you that attend regular classes will be familiar with the sequences of movement :)

To join in the challenge, all you need to do is be a part of the what’s app group, choose your favourite style of sun salutation to follow from the video on the app, and each day you practice 10 rounds of your chosen movement (Monday - Saturday) either add a tick/comment/photograph to share that you’ve practiced that day. Last year started with little ticks and emoji’s and resulted in beautiful pictures of people practicing with family, friends, client, pets and holiday snaps! It was great in keeping connected to our yoga community.

If you’d like to participate in the August Yoga Challenge, please drop me a what’s app message and I’ll send you an invitation to the group. We start the challenge on Tuesday August 1st so please message me before then.

Looking back to last term….

We were lucky enough to have some glorious weather last term which took our Friday morning Mixed Ability class outside every week! There was such a great feeling of being able to practice outside in the fresh air and warm sun…perhaps you can take your August Yoga Challenge outside and feel the benefits too?

Reverse Triangle Posture

BBC Gardeners World

I was fortunate to be invited to support the Platinum award winning Newson Health garden at this years BBC Gardners World! It was beautiful! The “Menopause Garden” was incredibly well designed by the amazing Ruth Gwynn Associates so that each and every plant, flower and feature had a purpose to serve to support the transition of women transitioning through the menopause. It even had a Yoga area where I was able to share  1:1 yogic practices throughout the day (with both men and women)

Dr Louise Newson and I practice yoga every week together at Newson Health so we had a little practice for ourselves before the doors were opened to the public (see photo)

Here Comes The Sun....

I’m writing this little letter to you in the glorious sunshine from my garden…gosh, it felt like the longest Winter ever! I think I missed Spring, but I’m grateful for warmer and drier weather, the luscious greens of the trees and abundance of colour that nature never fails to deliver at this time of year. Maybe it’s time to start thinking about Outdoor Yoga and a new Yoga Challenge for the Summer… I’ll keep you all posted :)

Read on for: Class Schedule; Events; Retreats; Muddy Stilettos Voting, and reflections on rest…

Rediscovering balance.

Thank you for all of your support over the last couple of months whilst I’ve been recovering and healing. Most of our practices have been fairly floor based, a bit ‘core-y’, standing balances, varied relaxations, a focus on two key meditations and Hakini Mudra. I have been working with all of these practices myself with a view to heal deeply, enhance self-awareness, self-limits and encourage deep rest. It’s been great to share them with you and receive feedback about how you’re benefiting from the practices too. The practices will evolve next term, as they usually do, with some new meditations, relaxations techniques, a new Mudra to explore and Mixed Ability Classes will start moving a little further into backbends and playful balances.

Resting.

The Importance of Rest…

I had to learn the hard way this year, that I wasn’t quite resting enough. Since collapsing in March due to overworking and being overwhelmed due to circumstances in my personal life, I really have learnt to carve out the time to rest, recover and reflect: and realise the importance of this. The fact that I tore ligaments in my ankle and was unable to walk, drive and run around like I usually would, literally forced me to sit still.

I quite like being still.

But I don’t have enough time for it.

(Does that sound familiar to anyone else?)

So now I make time for it. I use many of my yoga tools to support the valued rest that I now take on a daily basis. This may be a Yoga Nidra, a Meditation or a really supported Restorative Yoga position. I have spoken to, and work with many people that are experiencing or have experienced this ‘burn out’. ‘Burn Out’ is a real teacher - one that’s telling us that we’ve stopped listening to ourselves, and that quiet voice that is trying to tell you to say ‘No. I can’t do anymore. I just need to be still and quiet’ has been ignored too much.

So over the last couple of months, I’ve worked really hard in making little changes to take these rests and take time to reflect to really help recover and heal fully. Here’s a few changes I’ve made that may inspire you to help take a moment of rest - or maybe you do them already!

  1. Bed by 11pm (this is hard for a night owl!)

  2. Journal every morning and list 3 things that you’d like to achieve that day (this may be something like aiming to be in bed by 11! Or doing a 5 minute meditation that morning)

  3. Drink plenty of water - a glass every waking hour is a good target.

  4. Sit and drink your morning coffee/tea - without moving, just sitting.

  5. Make a date with yourself to take that time out for you to rest everyday. Literally put it in your diary as if you have a work meeting. Practice your Nidra/Meditation/Restorative Posture here. If you can do this at the same time every day - even better.

  6. If you’re in need of that coffee/tea - notice that you need it because you are tired - take rest instead or get an earlier night.

  7. Reflect on one thing that you’ve done for yourself, to look after yourself, at the end of each day.

These are just a few things that I’ve started to do. They may seem simple or obvious to some, but for those that are just used to being constantly on the go/feeling pressured, making time for these things is a real challenge. That’s all for now.

We have one week left of term and I have some treats in store for classes this week - yoga treats of course ;)

Much Love,

Lucy xx

Ps. I came across the list below from Instagram that I find pretty inspiring - so I thought to share. It was originally on a post by @within.nutrition

I hope you find it interesting too.

Stepping Slowly Into Spring

Just a little note to wish you all an enjoyable Easter break in some shape or form, whether you’re staying at home or going away, I’m hoping we can all welcome a bit of sunshine in our lives to uplift and restore. I’ll be resting, taking things slowly and nursing my new injury, so all things Yoga will start to pick up again next term.

Meanwhile, I thought to send out a little update on what’s been happening last term and what’s coming up, so grab yourself a cuppa, put your feet up and enjoy a read about all things with Living Your Yoga.

Restoring in supported shoulder-stand.

Last term flew by, and not without it’s ups and downs. Firstly, and most importantly, I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of those that have accommodated my injury and were happy to attend your yoga class online where I was unable to be in-person. It’s great that you’re able to maintain your practice within your yoga community whilst at home - thank you for being so flexible (in every way!)

I would like to say a huge thank you to the amazing staff at Newson Health who looked after me when I fainted and injured my foot a couple of weeks ago! They couldn’t do enough for me and made me feel so looked after, from the admin team, the nurses, GP’s and a sonographer! I was taken care of completely. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks resting with a couple of torn ligaments whilst gazing at the beautiful flowers the team have sent me - thank you team Newson Health.

On a personal level, my gorgeous children, my amazing parents, fabulous friends and caring clients have been checking in on me daily! The wonderful Andrea Ramus, Sports Massage Therapist, has checked in every day, taping my foot up and supporting me. I’ve had the amazing Emma Collins (Acupuncturist) treat me with Reiki (and do my washing!) as well as neighbours offering support. My folks have been ensuring myself and my children have meals and everything we need, and even my children have been cleaning and washing (lets hope that continues!) I can honestly say that I am incredibly grateful for all of the support I’ve received - huge thank you to everyone for all of your help.

I’ve learnt a lot in the last couple of weeks. Resting and recovering isn’t easy when my job and my home life is about supporting and nurturing others: I’m now tuning in to my quieter practices whilst I recover, reflecting on where life needs to change and using my subtler yoga tools to support my healing. Of course, all of these practices will be explored and shared at some point…it all takes the form of a cycle of research in some way. I’m grateful to have the time, support and knowledge to be able do this.

Little Reflection on Last Term…

Last term saw a busy schedule with both new and familiar faces; a fully-booked Well-Woman Yoga Afternoon Event; Dr Louise Newson’s latest book launch that I contributed to, and a brilliant Yoga retreat video created by my best friend Kat, founder of Black Belt Presence (I’ll add the link below for you to watch!) As well as announcing future retreats with Living Your Yoga in collaboration with a wonderful team of caterers and therapists including Sports Massage Therapist Andrea Ramus and Aromatherapist Rebecca Tracey. Ashtanga Yoga

Saturdays 7.30-9am

In-person & Online

A few in-person spaces have become available in our Saturday morning Ashtanga Yoga Classes. Ashtanga Yoga is my personal practice that I have studied for the best part of 23 years! It leans to a more dynamic form of a Hatha Yoga practice, with a fixed sequence of poses, with flowing movements between static postures, co-ordinated with breath. It’s a brilliant practice to build strength, focus, mental clarity, flexibility, create calm and uplift at the same time. It’s a very powerful practice. If you’re interested in trying out the practice or would like further information, do drop me an email:

info@livingyouryoga.co.uk

Well, that’s all for now.

Wishing everyone a really joyful Easter Break.

Much Love,

Lucy xx

A Little Bit More Light....

Despite the chilly air, Spring is around the corner: the bright yellow of the daffodils are beginning to show, days slightly lighter for longer, and it feels like nature is slowly awakening from it’s heavy slumber.

Living Your Yoga Well-Woman Retreat (Feb 2023)

Whilst nature has been in hibernation season, Living Your Yoga has been rather busy, from greeting the year with both new and familiar faces in class; filming for balance+; appearing on a balance+ Live with Dr Louise Newson and Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi discussing the importance of exercise (still available to watch on Balance+); Graduating from my 2 Year Yoga Therapy Training; and the first Living Your Yoga Well-Woman Retreat! A lot has happened already and the year ahead is looking bright with more events, retreats and classes to look forward to. Read on for more…

Hello 2023…

A warm welcome to the new faces with Living Your Yoga and welcome back to our regulars. It’s always great to return back to class after a little break and catch up with everyone’s news. I’ve shone a little highlight on our Monday Evening Online Class in this newsletter as it’s building up quite a community. Do spread the word about this class as it’s suitable for everyone.

It was lovely to start the year filming with Dr Louise Newson on balance+with a live discussion talking about exercise with inspirational Dr Hussain Al-Zubadi. The programme is still available to catch up on the balance+ app.

balance+ Live

I’m really happy to announce that I’ve graduated from my 2 Year Yoga Therapy Course with Yogacampus. I had the absolute joy to share these two years with an amazing group of women and teachers, with whom I hope to have lifelong contact with. We are now a group of qualified Yoga Therapists, scattered throughout the UK and Europe, so you’re never too far away from getting support from a Yoga Therapist.

Yoga Therapy really is quite a beautiful and honest approach in supporting you in life when it gets challenging or overwhelming. Yoga Therapy can take place in a 1:1 or a small group setting and it’s tools may help support anything from the physical ailments of musculoskeletal issues, to the mental and emotional distress that can be experienced during the menopause, anxiety, depression, grief…and can even be a healing anchor when having treatment or recovering from cancer. Yoga therapy can be a really healing tool for support in all aspects of life.

I have been working with many clients in a 1:1 setting and am due to begin a small group therapy course for peri-menopause & menopausal women after Easter.

If this is of interest to you, do drop me an email: info@livingyouryoga.co.uk

Newly qualified Yoga Therapists!

Thank you to the amazing group of women that attended Living Your Yoga’s first Well-Woman Retreat at The Cotswold Park Barns last month! It was utterly beautiful and such a pleasure to host such a fabulous group of women! I had the amazing help and support of my dear friends Kat and Andrea who helped make the retreat run so smoothly, helping make everyone feel welcome and settled, along with filming, massaging and cleaning up among the way!

The book includes science behind hormones, the importance and the effects on our bodies. The book includes both medical and holistic input from a whole range of contributors including Liz Earle, Dr Jane Simpson, Kate Muir, Joe Wicks to name a few…and even me! I talk a little about yoga… :)

The definitive Guide to the Perimenopause and Menopause will be published on 16th March 2023. You can pre order the book too!

That’s all for now. Look out for my International Women’s Day Special mail out on Wednesday 8th March and please share with all of those amazing women that you know out there!

Festive Greetings 2022

Well, that went quick! Did anyone see where 2022 went? I’ve been a little bit here, there and everywhere this year with yoga: from teaching to filming, studying to yoga travels and getting back outdoors and in nature whenever I can with my loved ones. It definitely feels like it’s time to wind down and ease into a restful festive season. So here’s a little bit of light reading about all things Yoga. I’d like to invite you to grab yourself a cuppa, a mince pie, put your feet up and enjoy a little read :)

Playing with props

First of all, I’d just like to say a big thank you to our Yoga community. Being able to offer both in-person and online classes, and for everyone to be so adaptable in attending both or either option. The beauty of having the online option is that you can still attend class when you’re on holiday or need to swap from your regular slot. I have really admired everyone’s commitment to their yoga practice - it’s really inspiring. Speaking of which, as the August Yoga Challenge took off so well, I’m going to create a January one too! I’ll update the whats app group. If you weren’t involved in this previously, but would like to join, do drop me a message and I’ll add you to the group. I will film a short practice and add it to the group. Each day you do the practice, you can sign off with a tick, a greeting, a photo, whatever works for you.

Living Your Yoga hosted two beautiful sell-out events this Autumn: Yoga Nidra in October and Well-Woman Yoga in November. Both events were catered for by the fabulous Cynthia from Desa Cafe in Leamington. We’ll be running more events in 2023, dates will be confirmed in a separate events newsletter.

The Definitive Guide to the Perimenopause and Menopause

by Dr Louise Newson

Dr Louise Newson is releasing a new book in the Spring to better inform and empower women to get the best support they can during their menopausal years. It explores numerous treatment options including the complete guide to HRT; ways to improve libido, mental and physical health and the impact that menopause can have on careers, relationships and all aspects of our lives.

There have been many contributors to this book including Jane Simpson (Pelvic Floor Bible), Liz Earle, Joe Wicks, Kate Muir, Dr Rupy Aujla (Doctor’s Kitchen) to name a few, and I’m really honoured to announce that I am also a contributor, offering my take on how Yoga can best support perimenopausal, menopausal and post-menopausal health and wellbeing.

The books release date is on March 16th, but pre-booking is available :)

Writing for Midwifery Matters

I have also written an article for a brilliant magazine called Midwifery Matters on the importance of post-natal care for new mums. Yoga is a fantastic tool to support healing for Post-Natal care, both physically & psychologically. It was a great opportunity to write about this subject as it’s often overlooked or not even considered what with the excitement of a new baby arriving. But post-natal care is vital for women in order to feel supported, not only in healing the physical body after giving birth, but also in order to acknowledge the huge transformation that they move into, from maidenhood to motherhood. It shakes up your world on every level, there’s no going back in any way, shape or form: it’s a huge transformation physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Yoga is a powerful practice that can support a woman’s life cycle in any stage that she’s at.

I work with so many women, from pre-natal to post-menopause witnessing these transformations, and the power that yoga has in providing a space of support, healing, strength and accessing one’s own inner wisdom, that’s in all of us.

Yoga Therapy

I’m really happy to announce that I’ll be graduating from my Yoga Therapy course in January! It’s been a full on two years and I’d like to thank my partner, children and parents for their continued support in accommodating my weekends to London for training, late-night assignments, helping me with childcare and the general craziness that has been the life schedule for the last couple of years! I couldn’t have done it without their love, support and patience.

I’d also like to thank all of you who have supported me in this course, worked around my classes and 1:1’s in order for me to continue studying and hopefully become a better Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist!

I’m really grateful for having had this opportunity: I’d wanted to do this course for many years and it has been a fantastic experience. I’ve also had the good fortune in working alongside a fantastic group of trainee therapists and have learnt from some amazing teachers! It’s been very full on, but really worth every minute. I really hope that all of you who attend my classes or 1:1’s feel that you experience the benefits of the newfound knowledge that I’ve been absorbing over the years!

Well, that’s all for this year. If you’ve made it this far down the newsletter, firstly thank you! Secondly, please do leave a little heart at the bottom so that I know if you’ve liked the read. Thanks so much.

I’ll leave you with the lyrics to a Christmas song created in 1971 and it’s meaning that still speaks for today: a Christmas holiday song and anti-war ballad in one…

Wishing you all a beautiful festive season.

The near and the dear ones

The old and the young

A very Merry Christmas

And a Happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas (ooh)

For weak and for strong (ooh)

For rich and the poor ones (ooh)

The war is so long (ooh)

And so happy Christmas (war is over)

For black and for white (if you want it)

For yellow and red ones (war is over)

Let's stop all the fight (now)

A very Merry Christmas

And a Happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas (ooh)

And what have we done (ooh)

Another year over (ooh)

And a new one just begun (ooh)

And so happy Christmas (war is over)

We hope you have fun (if you want it)

The near and the dear ones (war is over)

The old and the young (now)

A very Merry Christmas

(And a Happy New Year) Ooh, oh

(Let's hope it's a good one) It' a good, it's a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas (war is over)

And what have we done (if you want it)

Another year over (war is over)

And a new one just begun (now)
