At the heart of Yoga, when developed centuries ago, practices were created as a form of liberation. A spiritual practice, training the self to cultivate greater awareness, discernment, self-regulation and a connection to the higher self.
Nowadays people discover yoga, or attend classes, primarily to improve physical and mental health.
Yogic practices can heal, restore, revitalise, release and relax every part of our being.

If we choose.

Yoga is a mirror. It takes the form of an honest practice whereby we may start to see ourselves differently, maybe with more clarity.
Many of us come to yoga with a physical ailment; or we may want to seek a practice to soothe our busy stressful lives; support our mental health; or we may experience suffering in our daily life and turn to yoga as our sanctuary; we may be pregnant and seek a support network and wish to learn how to cope with physical discomfort and the emotional ups & downs.
As our practices develop, we take away a lot more than a purely physical practice.

We can use yogic practices to direct our lives in numerous positive ways. The practices can help us to really see ourselves, uncover area’s that we may not notice on a day-to day-basis, and through this uncovering, we may start to heal, feel clearer, more energised and become a little kinder.

Yes, our bodies will change with practice, we will see this…as will our habits, our thoughts and our insights. Our senses may feel a shift too…we may crave different foods, smells and sounds; we become more aware of what makes us feel good, grounded and joyful. This awareness all comes with practice and commitment: a form of self-study.

Here’s a collection of books & podcasts that I can recommend. Most have fed into the practices I use and share in my classes, or they’ve been recommended by my teachers. If you can recommend anymore, please let me know so that I can add and share for others to be inspired by. Enjoy!
